RBT definition
Reinforcement
A study definition for a consequence that increases the future likelihood of a behavior, identified by its effect rather than its label.
In plain language
Reinforcement is defined by what happens to the future likelihood of the behavior. A consequence is not reinforcing simply because it is usually preferred or because an adult intended it to work.
RBT decisions should follow the written plan and supervisor direction, attend to the learner and context, and use data to determine whether the procedure is producing the intended change.
