RBT definition
Prompt fading
A study definition for systematically reducing assistance so the learner can respond with less support when the plan calls for it.
In plain language
Prompt fading changes the level or amount of assistance according to the teaching plan. The aim is not to remove support abruptly; it is to transfer control to the relevant cue while preserving successful responding.
Look for the stated prompt, the fading sequence, and the learner response that should guide the next step. When a scenario does not provide enough direction, seek clinical guidance rather than inventing a new procedure.
