RBT definition
Functional assessment
A study definition for gathering information about behavior and its context so the supervising professional can evaluate possible function.
In plain language
A functional assessment gathers information about what happens before and after behavior, along with relevant setting events and patterns. The RBT participates only within the assigned role and under the supervisor’s direction.
In a study scenario, separate careful observation and reporting from independently designing or interpreting an assessment. Escalate questions about safety, procedures, or clinical decisions to the supervisor.
