RBT definition
Discontinuous measurement
A study definition for sampling whether behavior occurred during selected intervals rather than recording every occurrence.
In plain language
Discontinuous measurement samples behavior across defined intervals or opportunities. The selected procedure changes what the resulting data can tell the team, so the interval rule must be applied consistently.
When reviewing a scenario, identify what is observed, when the observation is recorded, and what decision the data are intended to support. Do not substitute a familiar procedure just because it is easier to remember.
